An Oasis on South Forest Lane 10

Christine Tunkey’s stunning Greenwood Village home-with it’s serene, luxurious landscape-is elegant, comfortable, and on the market

The moment Christine Tunkey walked into the foyer of the home on South Forest Lane, she knew she was home. Two-story ceilings, a sparkling chandelier and a stunning view through the living room to the house’s remarkable backyard left Tunkey in awe. Now, thirteen years later, Tunkey still speaks wistfully of the place she has been lucky enough to make her own.

The home, which Tunkey is now selling through Karina Christensen and Lisa Quoy of the Denver Luxe Team, is “elegant but comfortable.” It boasts six bedrooms and nine bathrooms, not to mention an office, study, walk-out basement-complete with a theater room, full kitchen and steam room-and much, much more. Curved archways and high ceilings lend the home an elegant grace, while incredible details like the immaculate cherry-wood paneling of the study imbue the space with style and class.

Though the 7,456 square foot home is stunning in its own right, it is outshone by the land surrounding it. To call it a “backyard” would do the space a serious injustice; this “secluded, private oasis,” as Christensen aptly describes it, features a heated lap pool and hot tub, as well as a large patio equipped with a built-in grill. While the amenities are undoubtedly fantastic, what makes this space a true oasis is the jaw-dropping landscaping: statuesque trees surround the property, which boasts a collection of peaceful ponds and a tranquil waterfall circled by a luxurious array of flowers and shrubbery. As Tunkey explains, “The backyard was designed so that you could escape life and feel hidden in the beauty that surrounds it.”

Over their years in the home, Tunkey and her family completed a vast number of renovations, adding modern touches to the house’s “old-money style.” They built an additional room upstairs over the garage, which has become Tunkey’s favorite room in the home (if you force her to choose just one, that is); they extended the Romeo and Juliet balconette off of the master bedroom into a more expansive, comfortable porch; they converted the basement exercise room into a movie theater; they extended the office to include a private parlor; they updated all of the windows throughout the home, and last, but certainly not least, they transformed a cement slab outdoor patio into the gorgeous backyard getaway that it is today.

The home is located on a legacy lot in the highly sought-after Preserve-a private neighborhood designed to accommodate families with its large lots and winding roads, perfect for peaceful walks and bike rides. As Tunkey explains, the community is very close, the kind of place where the staff at local restaurants know everyone’s name. She has adored living in this community, and gets emotional speaking about her home, the neighborhood and the fantastic memories she and her children have created there. As she moves on to a new adventure, she only hopes that whoever ends up on South Forest Lane loves and enjoys the home as much as she has.
