A look at retro revival from Principal Designer and Owner of Studio Thomas (@studiothomas), Kristen Thomas. Here she gives us the skinny on how the ’70s are making a comeback, what she loves and how to make it timeless.

Can You Dig It?

“WE TRY TO STAY AWAY FROM “TRENDY” DESIGN BUT WE’RE DEFINITELY SEEING SOME INFLUENCE FROM THE TRENDS OF THE ‘70S IN THE COLORS AND FINISHES WE’RE DRAWN TO LATELY. WE’RE NOT TALKING ABOUT OBVIOUS TRENDS LIKE SHAG CARPET OR PAISLEY PATTERNS, BUT WE ARE DEFINITELY NOTICING A SHIFT FROM THE STARK WHITES AND GRAYS TO INTERIORS WITH A WARMER FEEL WITH MORE ORGANIC MATERIALS – SUCH AS WOOD AND STONE AND LIVE PLANTS. WE’RE USING LOTS OF SOFT, TEXTURED FABRICS LIKE MOHAIR AND VELVET, AND ACCENTS IN WARMER COLORS – CARAMEL, BURNT ORANGE, MOSS AND HUNTER GREENS. THESE FEEL VERY FRESH, MODERN AND LIVEABLE TO US.”
