Tropical & Mountain Retreat Looks for Less

Whether you’re traveling by plane, train, car, boat or maybe even by gondola, vacations are the perfect time to slip into something comfortable and relax. As Rags Consignments shows us, you truly can have both style and comfort while catching some much-needed R&R.

Margaret Miner, co-owner of Rags Consignments (along with husband Ken Larkin), has more than two decades of experience outfitting Colorado women in fashionable looks for less. Rags has stores in Boulder, the Highlands and Cherry Creek, as well as a warehouse location opening in Boulder in early summer.

If you’ve booked your tickets for a mountain getaway or a tropical retreat, you’re probably already making a list of things to pack. Good news: We did the work for you. Here are tips on what to pack, and what to leave behind.

Heading into the mountains for a few days of light hiking and campfires? Layer up. Think about versatile tops, nubby wool sweaters and, of course, plaids that can be tucked in, twisted or fashioned in multiple ways and that will look great with whatever bottoms you switch into and out of throughout the day. Leather ankle boots are a must and warm socks are a given. Pack light and leave the fitted, fancy clothes at home.

For a beach haven, slip into light and airy linen and woven oversized cotton tops that will breathe. Bonus: Linens and cotton can serve as cover-ups during the day or cute, flowy tops at night. You’ll need a killer bikini (or two), flat sandals, a summer hat and sunglasses. By night, a simple, embroidered cotton dress, sexy heels and that new sun goddess glow is all of the style you’ll need.
